Tying Instructions:
1.) Place gold bead
onto shank of hook and place hook in vise.
2.) Secure thread
onto shank and build a small "dam" to hold bead
in place. Wind back to bend of hook.
3.) Tie in the tail
of mallard flank fibers, about ten fibers,
length equal to the hook gap.
4.) Tie in wire
ribbing, portion to be wound extending past
bend, and bring thread back to bend.
5.) Dub a thin body,
tapering gradually toward front. Abdomen should
extend to about two and a half bead widths
behind eye.
6.) Counterwrap wire
ribbing forward. Tie off and clip excess.
7.) Tie in four
strands of peacock herl by their tips. Twist
around tying thread and wrap to form thorax.
Leave a small space equal to about two thread
wraps between the thorax and bead. Tie off and
clip excess.
8.) Select a
partridge feather of light shade to match
mallard flank tail. Measure fibers for length,
which should be about as long as the hook shank.
Strip one side off of the feather and tie in by
its tip. Take two turns, tie down and clip
excess.
9.) Whip finish and
cement thread wraps.
